who we are and what we're up to

Welcome to Gathering Wild Dance Company!  We are an Atlanta-based dance company who has striven to produce national-calibre dance to thought-provoking and relevant themes since 1996.  Now in our 15th season, and still under the artistic direction of founder Jerylann Warner, Gathering Wild is composed of 11 company dancers and a handful of guest artists and collaborators, including local visual artist, Rachel Jackson and nationally-renowned dancer and choreographer, Charles “Bubba” Carr.  Our dancers hail from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, creating a unique artistic blend.

Right now we’re in the process of:

achieving non-profit status.  Over the past year, we have formed a Board of Directors, adopted bylaws, and registered as a corporation in the State of GA.  We are presently trudging through IRS Form 1023 (the application for tax-exempt status) …breathe in through the nose, and out through the mouth...

recreating and restaging 27.  Initially performed April 21, 2011 at Variety Playhouse, 27 is based upon the music and artistic themes of the notorious 27 Club, a shocking collection of rock and blues musicians (among other actors, artists, etc.) who died at age 27.  The original version of the show featured music by Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.  Since the untimely passing of Amy Winehouse this past July, the 27 Club has become more newsworthy and pertinent than ever.  It is with mixed emotions that we add Ms. Winehouse to our program of celebrated artists, among many other changes that we are making to the show.  The new 27 will be revealed on January 20th & 21st; be on the look out for more information soon!  In the meantime, check out the 27 Project Blog created by our Artist, Rachel Jackson.  Rachel has created an incredible array of artwork for the show, which she also largely aided in the conception of.

creating a small public performance, entitled Anatomy of a Song.  The dancers are in the studio with three choreographers, Charles “Bubba” Carr, Corian Ellisor, and Jerylann Warner, in production of three pieces created specifically for Decatur Square.  Performances will include an exciting collaboration with local singers and lighting technicians and will be revealed in conjunction with Decatur’s Terrific Thursdays on December 1st & 8th around sunset.  (psst.. “public performance” means it's free!)

We are looking forward to sharing more with you in these experiences!  We are so pleased to be among the talented dance and arts landscape in Atlanta and are eager to get to know all of you!  Please consider following our blog; we are also on facebook, vimeo, and twitter and would love to hear from you!  Additionally, we offer open company classes every Sunday from 9:30-10:30am at Beacon Hill Performing Arts Center in Decatur (intermediate/advanced level) and would love to dance with you!
